Course Title: Midrash (two levels)

The sages of the Rabbinic period interpreted the Biblical text in a unique way, called Midrash. Midrash reflects their worldview at that time and has shaped the way Jews have looked at God, the world and humanity ever since. These courses provide the student with the tools: textual, historical, religious and literary, to understand how the sages interpreted key stories in the Bible.
Midrash
This course will teach the rudiments of how to read Midrash and how the sages read the Biblical text. Special attention will be given to developing the skills necessary for self study. The text will be studied in both Hebrew and English translation.
Advanced Midrash
This course will focus on the ability to read and analyze
texts as well as the literary and theological growth of these texts at different stages of their development. The texts will be studied in Hebrew.
