Course Title: Photographing a Place, a People, a Past
3 Academic Credits

Course Objectives:
This course will address the question which has intrigued photographers for decades: the different approaches to photographing a place, a people, and their past. The students will learn basic photography skills- technical and artistic- while simultaneously learning how to communicate through photography. Students will be encouraged to utilize their individual views and perspectives, particularly their experience in Jerusalem- as a home, a holy place, a tourist attraction, etc. The course will facilitate students’ connection, analysis, and examination of the different approaches to photographing Jerusalem and its internal dynamics- in an effort to form their own photographic view of the city. Periodic field trips will be included as site-visits for picture taking and location analysis. Students will be required to select a location and document the place, people, and past through photographic media.

5. Presenting and Displaying Photo Exhibits  
Course Requirements:
Active participation in all class discussions, trips, and exercises        15 %
3 assignments based on bibliography         15 %
Final project presentation       70 %
No previous photography skills required – but students should bring their own manual camera.
